Midsummer African Dance Party Afla Sackey & Afrik Bawantu

Tropical Pressure Warm Up Party!!!

We couldn’t fit all the amazing artists who want to play this year’s tropical pressure festival on the bill…we didn’t want you to miss one of the hottest African bands playing live right now.

Afrik Bawantu is an orchestra producing African rhythm-driven, dance inducing fusion with traditional roots, formed by Ghanaian vocalist and djembe drummer Afla Sackey.
Afrik Bawantu’s original compositions blend highlife from West African percussion and more funk, rock genres, enhancing the cross-cultural collaboration. The uplifting rhythm section in harmony with roaring brass accompanied by high-powered bass lines creates a powerful Afro-Funk sound with an energy that drives audiences to the dance floors.
Their music is about unity and togetherness. Afla was inspired by homelessness and refugee crisis when writing his compositions.

“The stunningly international 10-piece [Afrik Bawantu] band take traditional Ghanaian music and scorching Afro-beat grooves and give them a funky fusion twist.” TIME OUT

“Afrik Bawantu blends vibrant African percussions to a funky horn section, spreading their Afro Funk energy to everyone in the audience.” THE BARBICAN
