The Down To Earth Foundation, based at the Eco Park, runs regular volunteering sessions every Friday 9.30am – 1pm (registration from 9.15am).
It’s a great chance to get outside, get stuck in and meet like-minded people while helping with seasonal projects in the 42-acre Eco Park grounds. Everyone is welcome and each session is followed by a hearty soup in the café!
Our location on the north coast of Cornwall is a World Heritage site, and the once derelict land has been lovingly brought back to life with the development of plenty of rich habitat for local wildlife, from wildflower fields to living willow structures.
During Volunteer Fridays you can expect to be involved in a wide range of activities, from maintaining bird boxes to growing organic vegetables in the community allotment that provides produce for the onsite vegetarian cafe.
What to expect in February –
We’ll be coppicing and pruning trees and shrubs as well as tidying up hedgerows around the Eco Park. We’ll also check on bird boxes before the nesting season starts. At the end of the month we’ll take our first look in the polytunnel and start getting things ready for spring planting.
What to expect in March –
In March we can finally look forward to spring as well as finishing off any winter gardening tasks.
We will be in the polytunnel every week sewing veg and flower seeds and planting seedlings. We will also be working outside around the Eco Park weeding, pruning and tree planting. Later in the month we will start working on the Cabana Cafe allotment.
Back in 2010 the Mount Pleasant Community Garden was launched as many local people said that they would like to grow their own fruit and vegetables.Read More
