You are invited to a weekend of dancing, camping and community under the stars!
Close Embrace Dance Camp Cornwall is a new coastal dance gathering . This year with a focus on Brazilian Forró and Argentine Tango — two partner dances that hold connection, rhythm, musicality and shared culture at their heart.
This first edition brings together workshops, social dancing, music, camping and time to connect in a beautiful setting near the sea. It is open to beginners as well as experienced dancers, and no partner is needed.
The camp is also shaped by a clear inclusive ethos. We are interested in partner dances that create an embrace between people, but also between cultures, histories and communities. Our approach is informed by role-fluid and non-gender-led dance practice, including principles from queer tango, where leading and following are understood as shared skills rather than fixed gender roles.
This first year is both a dance weekend and an invitation to help build something longer-term: an annual camp in Cornwall for dancers, teachers, musicians and movement practitioners interested in connection, embodiment and community.
Confirmed dance strands to date:
Brazilian Forró
Argentine Tango
Founding Team / Collaborators:
Forró Birmingham
Biljana Lipic / Art of Relating
Daisy Brodskis – movement and body awareness
Barefoot Forró / Barefoot Embrace
We are also interested in hearing from other dance teachers, musicians and movement practitioners who may want to be involved as the camp grows. We are particularly interested in finding a likeminded Kizomba teacher with Angolan heritage.
