When a legend like Dele Sosimi comes to Cornwall, we don’t want anyone to miss out. So, for the first time ever, the Eco Park is hosting a Sunday afternoon family friendly gig. The kids will be able to experience some of the best musicians in the UK right now, performing alongside the multiple award-winning Afrobeat Ambassador who has been consistently flying the Afrobeat flag in the UK since 1995.
His career began when he joined Fela’ Anikulapo-Kuti’s Egypt 80, where he played keyboards for 7 years (1979-1986) and worked and toured extensively around the world. Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was the founder of the style of Afrobeat. The music is a blend of complex but highly danceable funk grooves, Nigerian traditional music (including hi-life), African percussion, underpinning the jazz horns and solos from other instruments, as well as rhythmical singing.
Dele’s pulsating live shows demonstrate his vision of Afrobeat – one that is faithful to the original blueprint, but also clearly bears Dele’s own DNA, expanding the horizons of the genre.
A true pioneer, he is accompanied on stage by a 6-piece band, serving up an unforgettable mix of grooves that will ignite the beginning of winter in style!
Support comes from Afrobeat DJs from 1pm and Dele Sosimi and his Afrobeat Orchestra will be on the stage at 3pm. This gig is not just exclusively for families, all are welcome!
