The Eco Park is very excited to have started our very own print press! We will now be designing and printing all of our own posters and flyers in house, using soy based inks and recycled papers. Our new Risograph printer is the most environmentally friendly method of printing that we have come across, and is running straight off the Eco Parks wind turbine!
The Riso print studio offers a design and print service too, for beautiful environmentally conscious printing locally, this could be for you!
The Riso process is suitable for posters and flyers, artist publications, booklets and Fanzines, wedding invitations and luxury menus plus many more applications that we are excited to try out….small editions to LARGE RUNS of 5,000! RISO prints with a reduced colour pallet which can look much like a screen print, with beautifully vivid coloured inks.
We are very excited to be self publishing our own Fanzine, packed with Eco Park news, band interviews, topical discussions and wacky artwork. the first issue is due to be published around mid summer so look out for it in your nearest cafe or Community hub!
A Risograph is a digital duplicator working in a similar way to screen printing. An image is cut into a master which is wrapped around a cylindrical drum. Ink is then pushed through the master onto the paper as it passed through the machine to create the print.
Our Risograph printer is a very up to date two drum MF9350. We currently have 7 ink colours:
Back / Yellow / Green / Medium Blue / Red / Fluorescent Pink / Metallic Gold
These Soy based inks are slightly transparent so have the ability to create interesting effects by overlaying colours i.e. yellow and fluorescent pink can make a vivid orange / medium blue and fluorescent pink creates a dark purple.
We can print on papers up to A3 size, and best practice is to print multiple smaller prints onto A3 paper to be cut down to the desired size after the printing is completed
There is always a border left around the edge, so if you require full bleed the paper would need to be trimmed down, although this border can be considered part of the Riso aesthetic.
We stock recycled papers in weights ranging from 80g – 280g in white and off white.
We also have a selection of coloured paper and cardstock – please ask for our current stocklist.
The paper prices vary considerably so we will need to know your desired paper stock to give an accurate print quote.
You are also welcome to bring your own paper to print onto – up to 300gsm in weight.
The master can be created in three ways;
1 – Bring in a paper original and scan it straight onto the machine.
This can be a normal photocopy / laser print or can be a drawing or collage. The original needs to be in grayscale or black and white and will produce copies in whichever colour ink or inks you have chosen from our range. Each colour will need an original to create its own master.
2 – You can email a jpg/pdf/psd with your print ready artwork to firstname.lastname@example.org.
You’ll need to send your work with the colours separated. And each of the images needs to appear black – even if you are using a colour. If you send your red graphic in red it will come out much paler than if you send it to us in black. Put the colour in the filename to help us get it right. It also helps if you can send a graphic of what the final page will look like once printed with all the colours. But this is by no means essential.
3 – We love designing! We are more than happy to work with you to create designs, or help you generate files ready for print, please contact us for a design fee quote.
Prices are given based on quantity, number of ink colours, paper type and how much set up or design work is required. Limited editions are achievable for up to 6 colour stunning artist prints, however in large quantities the Riso becomes extremely cost effective, with 2019 prices available for as little as 3p* per A5 flyer in orders over 2,000.
