Join us for an evening of wild tales with Eric Maddern, transporting you through words to a mystical and Celtic land.
Performed in the barn 7pm
After a 10 year journey around the world, culminating in work as a ‘bush artist’ in indigenous Central Australia, Eric returned to Britain looking for a spirituality that connected landscape, ancestors, story and soul: ‘songlines’ that gave him a feeling of ‘home’. He called it ‘a white man’s dreaming’.
Since then he’s lived in Eryri (Snowdonia) where he’s guided the creation of Cae Mabon, an eco-retreat centre once described as a ‘Welsh Shangri-La’. He’s also become steeped in the myths of the mountains, some of the oldest stories of Britain.
In this telling Eric weaves together tales from this mythically potent landscape with originality and insight. He tells of the Math-Mabon-Merlin songline which culminates in the Fort of Fiery Higher Powers. He invokes dragons and Druids. He brings alive ancient deities through stunning masks. And he channels Merlin’s prophecy about the return of the ‘healing maiden’.
Now his quest is over. He’s found what he was looking for. Except it’s not white. It’s wild! ‘A wild man’s dreaming’.
Eric Maddern is a singer and storyteller, the author of a dozen children’s picture books and ‘Snowdonia Folk Tales’. His memoir, ‘Heart Flung to the Wind’, will be out soon.
Starting 7pm – The first half is 50 minutes then a short break, followed by 50 mins for the second half.
